Creative Labs Vado HD 720p Review

I have been using my Casio Exilim digital camera as a video camcorder. I prefer using it since it compact. My major concern is the need to buy additional items for it to function, just like a regular video camcorder. I had to buy a memory card to make use of its HD video quality feature. This is the advantage of a portable camcorder.
The Creative Labs Vado HD 720p Pocket Video Camcorder is really appealing and somewhat costly as compared to Kodak's Zi6 and Pure Digital's Flip MinoHD. Honestly it looks like a cellphone or just a plain toy camera. It is bland in its design as compared to MinoHD. Its redeeming factor is its functionality.
One thing I really look for in digital or video cameras is the screen size. Vado has a large 2-inch antiglare screen. This is already a plus factor for me. Its HD video resolution of up to 1280 x 720p is already remarkable for its size. Also, its wide-angle glass lens enables you to capture wider scenes and more action in your videos. There really is no perfect product and that is apparent in its 2x digital zoom. I just feel like Creative Labs should have made it to 3x or 4x digital zoom. It would also be nice to have an optical zoom for users to appreciate a full High Definition experience. Vado works great in dim or low light environments. Its videos are very bright so in future use try to avoid direct sunlight or shooting near a light source that is bright.
Vado's competitive edge is that it supports three shooting modes: HD Plus, HD, and standard definition video. Since it has an 8gb storage then you can actually create 2 videos in HD Plus mode. Of course, the standard video definition (VGA) resolution will give you more recording hours. This flexibility in recording gives you a lot of variation. Also, keep in mind that if your intention is to record videos then you really have to invest on spare batteries or an external charger. You may also use your laptop or netbook if you ran out of memory space. I like its flexible USB connection and that it comes with HD cables for connection to your television.
